I recently had the misfortune to break three bones and needed two surgeries and an 11 day stay in hospital.
During this time, I witnessed first hand the incredible, never-ending kindness, dedication and professionalism that our emergency services staff offer to complete strangers.
I owe a debt of gratitude to everyone in the NHS, from the ambulance drivers, the A&E staff, the nurses, the nursing assistants, the tea and coffee staff, the cleaners, the porters, the physiotherapists, radiologists and the talented surgeons and anaesthetists. All worked, not only to heal me, but to reassure and comfort me when I was at my most vulnerable.
The nation also owes a massive debt of gratitude to the NHS and to the other emergency services for working to keep us safe during this Covid pandemic.
