You don't have to decorate, create 60s' dishes or indulge in fancy-dress to enjoy a fab, groovy murder mystery party. If you're in a rush, just invite your guests and have a blast.
During Lockdown, many just adapt what they have in their own homes and perhaps use a printout or two from the comprehensive Decorations Pack that the host can (optionally) send to all guests when playing remotely via the Video Chat option.
But, when it comes to the Swinging Sixties, there's so much scope for OTT decorations and costumes it seems a shame not to make your home a truly hip, groovy, outta-sight pad ...
Prawn cocktail - quick and easy to make in advance; serve with crusty bread.
Extra tasty shepherds' pie - make the night before and serve with spiced red cabbage (also made the day before) and quick-cooking vegetables such as peas or asparagus.
Sherry and raspberry trifle - alcoholic, jelly-free bliss to make the night before.
Starters
Salads, meats or fish encased with jelly or gelatin
Stuffed cherry tomatoes or stuffed celery slices

Dessert Ideas
Tunnel of fudge
Fruit in jelly
Cheesecake
Black forest gateau
Pink champagne cake
Cupcakes topped with our themed cupcake toppers
Tea or Coffee
Serve with the height of 60s' sophistication - the "new" After Eights
You don't need to dress-up to enjoy the game. During Lockdown, most adapt what they can find in their wardrobes and homes.
But if you want to win the Best Costume award, then dig into your wardrobe, raid the charity shops, buy a complete outfit online or just accessorise what you have with a groovy wig - the choice of fancy dress is yours. The character booklets give different costume suggestions to each character but use your imagination and get grooving, man!

Whilst this is intended as an adult party, some parents will be happy to include teenagers, but this is very much down to parental judgement depending upon the individual teenager.
Mild Sexual and Drugs References
It's the 1960s, man, the decade of sex, drugs and rock'n'roll. Affairs are alleged (and denied). Allegations of "strange psychedelic" drug misuse are alleged (and denied). A scientist works for a company called DoDGY Pharmaceuticals. No graphic details are given, however. Our suggested dialogue contains the odd mild innuendo but does not contain explicit details or bad language.
Mild Violence
A murder has been committed prior to the party.
Pat Psychello (and also Pat Junior in the party game) may be an - alleged - East End thug, and may make some vague, comical threats and touch TOY weapons, but no graphic details are given.
There are allegations of mysterious disappearances, but no graphic details are given.
This is intended as a light-hearted bit of fun. As with anything, however, life experiences dictate how your guests will react.
The victim was stabbed with a letter-opener. There are allegations of previous disappearances in the hippie commune. Strange psychedelic drug use is alleged.
60s' Dance Trends
Whilst you're preparing food, get one of your guests to teach The Twist, The Loco-Motion, or The Mashed Potato. Or try some lesser-known dances such as The Frug or The Freddie.
Create a Sixties' Sound Track - And Get Some Satisfaction, Babe!
Set the mood for your fab shindig as soon as guests arrive with a themed sound-track. Some well-known upbeat songs include Yellow Submarine (The Beatles), Good Vibrations (The Beach Boys), The Twist (Chubby Checker), Please Mr Postman (The Marvelettes), These Boots Are Made for Walking (Nancy Sinatra), Leader of the Pack (The Shrangri-Las), Twist and Shout (The Beatles) and Runaround Sue (Dion DiMucci).
Be Hip, Outta-Sight and Non-Square with the Right Slang
Each Party Character Booklet begins with an introduction in 60s' slang.
Swing back to the Swinging Sixties when chicks were foxy, cats were cool, miniskirts were hip and music was outta-sight, groovy and boss, man.
Hang loose and have a blast, man. Don't get ticked off, or tee'd off or flip your wig at any squares or rat finks.
Have a gas at Pete's pad, defend your innocence - but be prepared to beat feet, bug out and burn some rubber if your secrets are found out ...
Suggested dialogue prompts contain some common 60s' slang so your guests don't need to swat-up, but you may wish to put a copy of our slang sheet on walls or tables.
As well as the tabs above, check out our Pinterest board for some outta-sight ideas.

The sixties murder mystery game was fun played on Zoom. We soon got used to the fact we weren’t all in the same room. The game comes with a comprehensive set of files, they’ve thought of everything you could possibly need. I sent the pre party booklets, party booklets and evidence to individuals a week beforehand on WhatsApp. We got dressed up using things we could find around the house. Most people followed the party Booklet (script) on a second device on the night, a couple printed them out. It was a good laugh. We got a bit mixed up at times but it was all part of the fun. Playing this game was a good distraction during lockdown.
Ruby Fothergill –
Amazing party game for a zoom party. Each character got involved and there is plenty of information for people really to get into action. Great for all ages. Our game ranged from 13-73. 10/10 would recommend!

Great fun. We did virtual on Zoom for my wife’s 50th birthday party. Was much easier than I expected. Group still talking about this a week later—playing their characters. Jan was great and answered my questions promptly! We will try another mystery next year!
Stewart Adkins –
This was an excellent way to bring the family together virtually. The dressing up instructions were clear giving everyone a chance to find something appropriate in their cupboards despite the lockdown. The script itself was easy to follow although sometimes the optional interjections did throw us and meant the characters skipped lines. I would have preferred an even simpler script and a clearer order so every character knows their cue. Familiarity with Zoom and the appropriate use of Mute would also make the action easier to follow. We had the maximum of 14 people and at times it was noisy. Overall though a great way to encourage a get-together.
Note from Maple Mystery Games – since the gentleman bought this mystery, we have produced a Tip Sheet for Virtual Games that deals with the importance of muting the microphone and suggests using our Optional Initial “Mingling” as a trial run for learning Zoom etc. We have also changed the booklets for the optional characters so that they are encouraged to speak at the end of sections whilst still allowing some characters to ad-lib for spontaneity.

This was so fun! We were a bit worried it would be too confusing doing it virtually, but it was so easy! Definitely worth the money and would do another one. Was certainly a good way to involve everyone and waste some quarantine time. 10/10.

Bought this to host a virtual murder mystery evening with my family on the 25th April and chose the 12-14 player pack. Everyone agreed this was by far the most fun they’d had during lockdown and was great to find something that all ages could get involved with. Was lovely to transport back to the sixties and was so chuffed with how much everyone got involved. Was very easy to set up and organise and would love to try many more evenings like this. Have already recommended to other friends and family to give it a go!

Week 6 locked down in Covid-19 stay at home orders, my teammates and I were probably closer to a murder of our own rather than not, so we decided to solve a murder instead. Less jail time that way. We played the 6-8 player online version and it was so easy to set-up, we pulled this off with only a couple of hours, and we still had a great time! The kit was logically laid out so everything was easy to find, and it comes with copious hosting suggestions which provided wonderful additions to the experience. The characters were fun, the mystery was real, and not everyone guessed who the murderer was at the end. It was great that there was opportunity to not just guess the murderer but to state WHY you guessed the murderer- extra sleuthy points there. I’d recommend this to anyone, even last-minute people like us who really didn’t have much, or even any (?) experiences in murder mysteries.
Elaine De Fries (verified owner) –
This was a well devised murder mystery with lots of period detail including wine bottle labels, posters and place cards. Easy to execute remotely and with funny characters which the guests at my party enjoyed playing! Will definitely be purchasing another
Especially fun in these strange times

This seemed like a great way for our team at work to still socialise during lockdown and it didn’t disappoint. The information sent through for hosting the party was clear and informative. We all had a fantastic evening hamming it up and it gave people a great excuse to dress up. There isn’t anything essential to provide so we just made do with what we had in the house. Would highly recommend for a fun night in!
Coralie Scarr (verified owner) –
Really enjoyed it – great way to alleviate some lockdown boredom and have a great night with family all over the country via Skype!
So helpful to have all the information we needed to hand, and have the freedom to follow the script or have a bit of fun ad-libbing!
