FAQS
1 Is There Much "Gore" in the Halloween Murder Mysteries?
Murder at the Halloween Party - there is no "gore". Grim von Reaper is killed by a poisoned spray in a Secret Cauldron present - a method of homicide that is designed to be far removed from most people's reality. There are - alleged - serial killers, but there are no details and the characters concerned have fun denying all accusations. If you wish to have a non-scary party, simply concentrate on fun decorations such as pumpkins, Trick or Treat wreaths, or bright orange, green and purple balloons.
Murder at Horror Castle - hosts can enjoy adding as much or as little "gore" as they wish into the decorations and food. However, the suggested dialogue has been carefully designed to suggest "horrors" without giving any specific details. For example, Vamp talks about "inventive murders" but no details are given.
Pirates Plunder and Murder - this is a swashbuckling mystery game with no "gore".
2 How Do I Convert a Classic Murder Mystery Into a Halloween Party?
Simply add some spooky touches to your decorations, food, drinks, or costumes. Just a few ideas:
- Decorations: mix your favorite spooky decorations with the themed "decade" decor that we suggest for each game. For example, with "Murder at the 70s Disco Party", many hosts choose to use purple and orange colors in their decor. As these colors are also associated with Halloween, then simply add a few cobwebs and fake spiders to your 1970s decor.
- Food: adapt our themed decade-specific recipe ideas by adding extra spooky touches such as using Halloween cookie cutters for biscuits, puff-pastry, and sandwiches or adding edible eyes to devilled eggs. For example, with "Murder in the Swinging Sixties", adapt the classic 1960s cocktail party food of cheese and pineapple on sticks by using cocktail sticks topped with miniature pumpkins, bats, or witchy hats.
- Drinks: many hosts choose to serve cocktails for our "Murder in a 1920s Speakeasy" party. If running the game during the Spooky Season, then give these cocktails creepy names such as Vampire's Kiss or Witch's Curse. Use ingredients to give the classic Halloween colors of orange, green, purple, red, or black; decorate with lychee and blueberry "eyes" or with shrunken apple "skulls".
- Costumes: ask guests to add a spooky touch to the costumes suggested in their Pre-party Booklets. For example, for "Murder in a 1920s Speakeasy", they could add a demon or bat headband to a flapper's outfit. For "Murder in the Naughty Nineties", they could add neon pumpkin or ghost glasses. Optionally, provide a pack of spooky party accessories that guests can choose to add to their outfits.
